The mission in Santa Cruz was vandalized over the weekend. I'm glad I got a chance to go visit before this happened. Inner City Rez
My friend wanted to go visit the Intertribal Friendship House in Oakland to see a pair of movies they were showing. It was to help support the efforts that are going on in Glen Cove, or Sagorea Te as it's called by the Ohlone tribe.

My mom liked this mission the most out of our recent trips because of the barracks that housed the soldiers across the street. I agree. The history of the mission being used as a buffer to keep Russians from settling down the coast of California is interesting.

My mother, brother, and I went to visit the northernmost of the Spanish missions that are along the coast of California. Mission San Francisco de Solano also has a barracks that was built for Mexican soldiers right across the street.

I went to visit another one of the California missions with my mother last Friday. Surprisingly, the one in Marin county, San Rafael, is dedicated to the archangel Raphael. The smallest I've visited so far, but the church had some of the cooler stained glass windows I've encountered. It's kind of hard to believe that Mission Dolores was the first building in San Francisco. Inside there's an artist's painting of the mission with the Twin Peaks in the background, and nothing else around. My mother and I went to visit another one of the missions here in the Bay Area. I've seen the historical landmark sign along the freeway heading into Silicon Valley, and figured the mission in Santa Clara wouldn't be too hard to locate. I went to visit Mission San Jose this afternoon. The junior college that I attended is right next to this place, but I'd never been inside. I wish they allowed pictures. There was one of the most grisly crucifixes that I've ever seen hanging on one of the walls. Poor JC's shins were shredded nearly to the bone, and there were other wounds that ( Read more... )
